DAA
Thanks to Stewart Mclean for sending me the information for this post.
As you read this post keep three things in mind:
- First, I've been following a low carb, high fat diet for OVER six years now... and as a formerly obese, formerly drug and insulin dependent diabetic, I THRIVE!! (6 year anniversary post).
- Second, let your blood sugar meter be your guide. You should know that elevated blood sugars are toxic to every cell in the body. It makes no sense to eat foods that spike your blood sugars.
- Lastly, you need to learn to question everything, especially if people profit form the advice. Make no mistake... Big Food, Big Pharma and the Medical Industry profit from their harmful drug inducing, health debilitating advice.
Deception: Dietitians Ass of Australia
In this impressive looking article, it almost looks scholarly, the Diabetes Ass of Australia (DAA) discusses Low Carbohydrate, High Fat Diets for Diabetes.
Before I move on, let me say that I could criticize literally everything that is said in the article. The advice is either an absolute lie, or half-truths. I'm only going to hit the major points. I may end up writing a Part 2 and 3.
I'm just going to copy and paste quotes from the text.
So what about ‘Low Carb, High Fat’? Is it really the best if you have diabetes? And, is it sustainable?
Yes. I have tested high, moderate and low carb ... without a doubt the diet that works the best for me, and all of those I help is a VERY low carb, high fat, moderate protein diet or meal plan. I have been drug and insulin free, with truly normal blood sugars for OVER six years. I am not alone, there are many diabetics who are THRIVING on a similar meal plan... type 1 and type 2's.
When you have diabetes mellitus, the aim is to manage your blood glucose levels, your blood fats and blood pressure as best as possible.
Like their American cousin the American Diabetes Ass, the DAA deals in half-truths. The SINGLE most important factor for diabetics is blood sugar control with a low carb meal plan.
Control your blood sugars and diabetes complications including heart disease, kidney disease, neuropathy, amputations, etc ... go away.
I have reversed all known diabetes complications as have others.
Additionally, my cholesterol and blood pressure numbers all improved while eating this way.
To this end, there is no single optimal diet for all people who have diabetes – there are many different ways of eating well.
A lie that is told to diabetics WORLD WIDE!
Diabetes is a disease of elevated blood sugar. There are numerous factors for elevating blood sugars but remove the dietary fuel for blood sugar spikes and you will be on your way to winning the war with diabetes.
It is immoral and unethical to promote a moderate or high carb diet to diabetics. Millions suffer while a relative few in the drug, food and medical industry profit.
In research, some have used ‘Very Low Carbohydrate Ketogenic Diets’ (VLCKD) with amounts from 20-50g carbohydrate per day (less than four ‘portions’). These diets often omit whole food groups and make it impossible to meet all known nutrient and fibre targets, and therefore could not be recommended for diabetes management in the long term2.
This is the same ignorant and harmful information I was told, way back in 2015.
I eat on average @ 15 grams of carbohydrates per day... that's my historical average for the last six years.
The 'omitting whole food groups' comment is referring to high carb grain based foods such as breads, cakes, cookies, pasta, rice and cereals. They are also referring to high carb sugary fruits and fruit juices. I eat none of those foods and I thrive!
You can listen to those who benefit from your continued addiction to sugar and grains ... or discover a better way.
One of the main problems is that it can be difficult to translate this Low Carbohydrate diet into foods, without dramatic changes to the types of foods normally eaten.
This entire post is nothing but propaganda to add to the confusion of those that need true nutritional clarity... diabetics.
It is easy to translate, very simple. Here is a link to my meal plan where I lay it all out, but in brief... eat fatty meats, leafy green vegetables, eggs, butter and coconut oil until your blood sugars normalize.
How simple is that? ... very simple. :)
Once blood sugars are normalized you can add back foods, staying below 30g of total carbohydrates. Examples and sample food links are located on this page.
According to Diabetes Australia[7], very low carbohydrate diets are not recommended for people with diabetes. The organization states: ‘If you eat regular meals and spread your carbohydrate foods evenly throughout the day, you will help maintain your energy levels without causing large rises in your blood glucose levels’ (Diabetes Australia website, 2015). Diabetes Australia recommends people with diabetes eat moderate amounts of carbohydrate and include high-fibre foods that also have a low glycaemic index (GI).
Regular meals, spreading your carbohydrates throughout the day is so ignorant and so harmful.
Do you know what that will guarantee? A burned out pancreas. Eating carbs throughout the day will keep your blood sugars elevated and keep your pancreas working ALL day.
Also, since you will go to bed with elevated blood sugars, your pancreas will likely work all night as well. Proof will be if you wake up fasting above 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/l).
Or you can eat like me. I only eat one to two meals a day of very low carb foods. My pancreas rests practically 22 hours a day, perhaps a little work during meal times. My blood sugars stay flat, and normal. I do not have the soaring highs and crashing lows of a high carb, grain based meal plan.
Don't think you can get by on one to two meals a day? Trust me, you can. Your body will adapt to burning fat for fuel. The problem today is the soaring highs of blood sugars and the crashing lows that generate the needs for more carbs.
Therefore, a diet that is very low in carbohydrate may not be physically or mentally sustainable as a diet pattern.
I was 'fed' this lie as well back in 2009. Luckily I looked at the science and experimented with low carb and blood sugars.
I saw the light and I have never looked back. For six years I have been completely drug and insulin free and I was once a 'cash cow' for Big Food, Big Pharma and the Medical Industry.
Summary
There is literally more lies and deception than I care to read in the DAA document.
Follow the diet information in these link, Meal Plan and Nutrition. The information is COMPLETELY free. Or you can continue to follow the advice of the American Diabetes Ass. (ADA) or the Dietitians Ass of Australia (DAA) which coincidentally keeps you on a path of more and more drugs, and more and more payments to your medical industry professional.
There is real science that supports my suggestions too. Science not funded by Big Food, Big Pharma or the Medical Industry. Check out this link, Low Carb as the First Line of Defense.
In the next post on the DAA we'll take a look at the organization's behavior in dismissing a friend of mine, Jennifer Elliott.
Peace, love and normal blood sugars to you.
